ConceptThe Hollywood Bowl is an architectural gem and cultural icon that has greatly influenced the music industry. Hosting legendary artists across genres, it serves as a crossroads for musical movements and creativity. However, it lacks a consistent visual system to highlight its significance in Los Angeles. For this project, I aim to create a musical visual system that enhances user experience while emphasizing the Hollywood Bowl's importance in the music industry.

LogoFor the new logo design, I aimed to emphasize musicality as a key feature. I drew inspiration from the legato lines in pentatonic music and combined them with the curvilinear arcs of the Hollywood Bowl's shell. By integrating these curves, I created a smooth shape resembling a lowercase "h."

Visual SystemI divided the visual system into two distinct approaches. The first approach was inspired by the iconography in music sheets. I am incorporating notes from these sheets, such as the crescendo and smorzando markings.

The second visual system focuses on more specialized aspects. It features a real-time generated music wheel. The circular design references the shape of the Hollywood Bowl building, allowing for potential interaction between the visual patterns and the structure itself.  This system also aims to establish a visual language that connects with the photos of the Hollywood Bowl.

It is a real-time generated music wheel that can be projected on the Hollywood Bowl itself and create patterns by the music on the stage. So that even the audience sitting far back can feel the musicality and singing atmosphere during the concert.

WebThe two visual systems can collaborate by utilizing the music wheels in larger spaces and the note patterns in narrower ones to connect the texts.
